How suncare works?
Sunscreens work by absorbing, reflecting or scattering the sun’s rays on the skin. SPF, is short for sun protection factor, which measures the length of time a product protects against skin burning from ultraviolet radiation. The SPF number indicates how many times longer a person can stay in the sun before beginning to burn while wearing sun protection than if they were not wearing any sun protection at all.
SPF ratings indicate the level of UVB coverage however, SPF does not factor in all the damaging UVA rays. Therefore, it is important to use a broad spectrum product formulated to prevent both UVA and UVB rays.

The Cause of Sun Damage
The sun produces energy in the form of light waves of different lengths and intensity. The sunlight we see is called visible light. The sun’s invisible rays, are above visible light and are divided into different energy levels.
Ultraviolet A (UVA) rays are the longest of the three with wavelengths (400-315 nanometers) that penetrate deep into the dermis causing tissue damage leading to the breakdown of collagen and elastin. UVA rays cause wrinkles and premature aging.
Ultraviolet B (UVB) rays have shorter wavelengths (315-280 nanometers) and are known to mainly cause sunburns and effect the epidermis relating to pigment changes.
Both UVA and UVB damage contribute to skin cancer.
