IPL

What is IPL and what can it do for you?

IPL is intense pulse light. It can used for lightening pigmentation, firming of the skin, reduce pore size and scars, treat acne scars, control the oil glands production to prevent acne formation and permanent hair removal.

How IPL works?

Hair removal

IPL uses intense pulse light energy where it passes through the crystal of different wave length and is converted to heat energy. When it’s converted to heat, it passes through the hair follicle and reaches the hair cells and kills the hair bud. Because our hair grows in 3 stages, only the active hair will be destroyed. That’s why we need a few treatments to completely clear off the hair.

Pigmentation

When the light passes through the crystal and penetrates into the skin, it heats up the skin and absorbs by the dark pigment of the skin and pushes the pigmentation up to the skin. After a few days, it will form into a scab and fade off. Normally, it takes about 5-7 days to peel off and the inner skin will be fairer. If the pigmentation is very deep, it needs a few treatments to push the pigments from the basal layer to the outer skin. That’s why we need about 6-8 treatments to clear the treatment.

Firming

For firming, when the light passes through the crystal and penetrates into the skin, it heats up the skin to give the cell energy and increase the turn over rate of the collagen cell to fill up the fine line and toning of the skin. Because when we get older, our collagen cell will decrease resulting in the sagginess and the suppleness of the skin.

Acne

Acne also works the same. The heat energy will follow the hair follicle to the oil gland which is attached to the hair where it slows down the production of the oil gland. Over production of the oil gland will cause a plug (white head) which will be attacked by the P bacteria and cause inflammation of the skin, that’s how acne is formed.
